NBA legend Charles Barkley has weighed in on the scenario, suggesting that the Suns had been trying to transfer Ayton for a while.
“With the Suns, one thing was happening with Deandre Ayton. It goes again to there was a problem with Monty Williams and Deandre Ayton. Now it should have been one thing else happening within the group. (Phoenix) clearly simply needed to do away with him,” Barkley stated, per Duane Rankin.
