Bianca Andreescu is recovering from an emergency appendectomy—and aiming for a clay-court comeback within the spring.
The 2019 US Open champion introduced her sudden surgical procedure on social media. Surgical procedure has compelled Andreescu out of the Merida Open in Mexico later this month.

A artistic and versatile participant, Andreescu has been tormented by an assortment of accidents in recent times. The 2019 Indian Wells champion has not competed since her run to the Tokyo quarterfinals final October, falling to Katie Boulter, 6-2, 6-1.
Now, the One hundred and thirtieth-ranked Canadian’s comeback must wait till spring as she recovers from surgical procedure.
“Coaching was going so nicely and I used to be very excited for the Merida Open to be my first match of the 2025 season,” Andreescu posted on social media. “Nonetheless, I unexpectedly began experiencing some sharp pains in my abdomen, which led to an emergency appendectomy.
“The surgical procedure went easily, and I am on the highway to restoration. My plan is to be again on the courtroom for the clay season stronger than ever. Thanks a lot for all of your help—cannot wait to competing.”
The Merida Open is ready for February 24-March 2nd.
Final season, Andreescu contested the ‘s-Hertogenbosch closing on grass dropping to Liudmila Samsonova, 6-4, 3-6, 5-7. Andreescu later snapped a five-match dropping streak along with her Tokyo quarterfinal end in her final match look in October.
