Pakistan has appointed former quick bowler Aqib Javed has been as its interim check coach after Jason Gillespie resigned, the nation’s cricket board (PCB) stated on Thursday.

Aqib was appointed additionally named Pakistan’s interim white-ball coach final month.

Pakistan Cricket Board signed Australian Gillespie in April on a two-year contract alongside Gary Kirsten, who resigned as limited-overs coach in October. Gillespie resigned earlier on Thursday amid media experiences of a breakdown in relations between him and the PCB.

“Aqib’s first project as red-ball head coach would be the two-match check sequence towards South Africa throughout the ongoing all-format tour,” the PCB stated in an announcement.
