Wellalage shines on debut to assist Sri Lanka even Twenty20 sequence towards West Indies

Dunith Wellalage led the way in which with three wickets in his debut match as Sri Lanka beat West Indies by 73 runs within the second Twenty20 match on Tuesday to stage the three-match sequence 1-1.

Sri Lanka captain Charith Asalanka received the toss and elected to bat first and his workforce scored 162-5 at Rangiri Dambulla Stadium. In reply, the West Indies have been bowled out for 89 within the seventeenth over, handing the hosts their largest win by runs towards the West Indies.

Pathum Nissanka made 54 runs off 49 deliveries for Sri Lanka together with a six and 9 boundaries. Kusal Mendis and Kusal Perera had helpful knocks of 26 and 24, respectively.

Quick bowler Romario Shepherd took 2-23 for the West Indies.

In reply, West Indies misplaced its manner early, unable to attain freely and falling to stress on a pitch that helped spin bowling.

Wellalage had Brandon King, who high scored within the first match, stumped by Kusal Mendis for five and had each Andre Fletcher (4) and Roston Chase (4) caught by Kamindu Mendis to complete with three wickets for 9 runs in his 4 overs.

Spinners Maheesh Theekshana, Asalanka and Wanindu Hasaranga additionally took two wickets every.

West Indies misplaced its first wicket at 12 and couldn’t get well from shedding seven for 40.

Transient resistance from captain Rovman Powell (20) and Alzarri Joseph (16) was to no avail.

The third and series-deciding match can be performed on the similar venue on Thursday.
