Former India skipper and Chairman of Selectors Okay. Srikkanth hailed the revival of the All India Buchi Babu invitational cricket match organised by the Tamil Nadu Cricket Affiliation (TNCA).

The match returns after a five-year break with the final version held in 2017.

“The revival of Buchi Babu is necessary for the revival of First-Class cricket. I’m completely happy that TNCA is reviving it as a four-day format as it’s the stepping stone into massive league cricket,” stated Srikkanth on the launch occasion of the match on Thursday.

“You had a few of the largest names like Sunil Gavaskar, Ravi Shastri, Roger Binny, G.R. Viswanath and so forth play on this occasion. When you do effectively on this match, you used to get recognised at an all-India degree. You needed to do effectively in opposition to the Indian gamers as a result of it was an important studying curve and publicity for us,” Srikkanth added, who recalled watching Gavaskar for the primary time when the latter performed for ACC in opposition to Jolly Rovers in 1971.

TNCA secretary R.I. Palani stated, “That is the biggest-budgeted Buchi Babu occasion with 12 groups taking part in in 4 cities (Salem, Coimbatore, Dindigul and Tirunelveli) and, for the primary time, can be performed outdoors Chennai. It was the curtain-raiser for the home season, and we’re taking part in within the four-day format for the primary time to make it an excellent preparation for the Ranji Trophy.”

The 12 groups have been divided into 4 teams of three, with the group toppers progressing to the semifinals. The ultimate can be held in Coimbatore, whereas Take Sports activities would be the title sponsor for the subsequent three years.
